The 2021 Mind and Machine Intelligence Annual Summit looks at the state-of-the-art of AI in healthcare and the ways in which AI can be used/misused in this setting. This (virtual) event will be held over three half days, and is organized around three broad topics: AI, Doctors, and Patients on Day 1; AI, Radiology, and Decisions on Day 2; and AI and COVID-19 on Day 3.

The Mellichamp Initiative on Mind and Machine Intelligence at UCSB is hosting a three-day virtual workshop exploring the role, impact, and future of the exploding field of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of medicine. The increasing complexity and sheer volume of data available in healthcare has led to a growing interest in deploying AI tools to support clinical decisions, improve patient outcomes, and optimize treatment efficiency. Although a number of reports suggest that AI can perform as well or better than humans at some healthcare tasks, formidable design challenges, as well as ethical and legal questions remain.

The seminar will bring experts from the fields of AI, cognitive science, and medicine to discuss the intersection of AI and health from the perspectives of the providers and primary users (doctors, radiologists, public policy makers), as well as those most affected by the decision processes implemented through the algorithms these AI systems learn (patients, public at large during the COVID pandemic).

More information can be found here from the Mind and Machine Intelligence initiative, and all are warmly invited to register for the workshop for free here and attend this exciting series of crucial and timely conversations.
