Luke hails from Minnesota, where he graduated from the University of Minnesota: Twin Cities (Go Gophers!) in 2015 with a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering: Neural Engineering (magna cum laude). He then went to sunny California for his PhD in Dynamical Neuroscience at UCSB working under Prof. Greg Ashby and Prof. Miguel Eckstein. Currently in his 5th year, Luke enjoys reading, hiking, dancing (West Coast Swing, Ballroom, and more), scuba, surfing, tennis, and general exploring.
Luke’s research interests involve studying the neural systems that allow humans to categorize objects in their visual environment; how these category learning systems interact with other processes such as vision, visual search, or attention; and how we can use category learning to study specific aspects of harder-to-target systems.
